Ginger

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) is a part of Recovery Rx’s formula because it brings clinically studied anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity that complements turmeric.

How ginger works

The ginger root contains gingerols and shogaols, phenolic compounds that:

  • Inhibit COX-2 and 5-lipoxygenase, key enzymes that generate pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and leukotrienes. By damping these pathways, ginger reduces production of mediators that drive pain and swelling.

  • Down-regulate NF-κB signaling, leading to lower expression of inflammatory cytokines like TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6, which are heavily involved in chronic joint and tissue inflammation.

  • Show strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, where ginger essential oil reduced swelling and pain with efficacy approaching reference drugs such as diclofenac and aspirin.

Evidence for pain and joint support

  • Clinical trials and reviews in musculoskeletal conditions (especially osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis) report that ginger preparations reduce pain and stiffness.

  • Topical formulations combining ginger with other botanicals have demonstrated pain relief comparable to diclofenac or salicylate gels, showing that ginger is effective when delivered through the skin as part of a multi-herb formula.
